Web Design?...programming..thats more like it.

So since summer has started what is better than hitting the Lynda.com library.  I have made it a mission to complete a couple Javascript titles as well as grasping Joomla!, XML, HTML, CSS, and if that didn't sound exhilarating enough I will finish it all off with DESIGN! The internship I have this summer calls for completing files in InDesign, as well as making and completing 8 websites, designing skateboard decks, Creating E-Blasts by using static images and slicing them into interactive e-mails for their potential clients, and more.  This summer will probably be the most I will learn in one sum but I feel I'm behind for where I need to be in a year.  I am taking a horrendous biology class this summer too.  Here's to a lot of hours of Pandora and sleep after all this is said and done.

Joplin ADDYS

Just got done this weekend slam packing my ADDY entries into their clear envelopes in preparation of being looked over. I submitted I AM JOPLIN as a campaign, my portfolio website Zach Waggoner or ZW Portfolio and A Youtube exclusive Campaign called "The Central", That one was a blast to put together. It was a mocumentary of what you would see on MTV but not so glamourous. DVD cover, T-shirt, Episode, accompanied by music, all put together for last Springs Digital File Prep course.

I am extremely exhausted from manually translating 6+ sites for the past 8 hours. Gotta get ready for class tomorrow but thought I would stop by and say COME TO THE ADDYS! this will be a horrible promotion, I don't know where it is or what time but BE there!

...more details to come I'm sure

until then Good Night, I'm out.

The Wolf and the wolverine

I was at my house this week and thought it was a good idea to finally fix up The Wolf and the Wolverine's web presence.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about check it out at THE WOLF AND THE WOLVERINE and then come back to finish reading.  K? thanks :) Anyways I was creating a poster for our Show February 17th at Blackthorn and liked what was coming out of it so it became the theme of our online dealio.   We are an electronic Indie piano rock band here in good 'ol Joplin MO and due to my school I feel it has been placed on the back burner.  I am here now to get it back off the ground and push it hard this year.  We have some songs for free or donation ;) that you can pick up at our site and we are working on merch.  It should be an interesting year so book mark us or find us on Facebook.  Our shows seem to be pretty energetic so if you get the chance stop on by, Jonathan (the other member ) plays Piano, and sings, and if you were to make it out to one of our shows Jonathan often wears something ridiculous and cuts his hair just for the show, all while I'm tangled in a throng of cords trying to masterpiece our sound system to work for 2 members that control 9 instruments, its definitely a show worth coming out too. :) Mkay enough PR head to the site let me know what you think and I'll see you all later.

Stupid, silly E-blasts.

E-blasts done easy. Check it out if you haven't... I think campaign monitor can create inline css if you have styles else where but this is nifty I think. You can head to
Which is described as Preflight for Emails and it will tell you whats going on with your css(as in errors) and give you back a working version of inline styles so you don't have to manually place all the styles individually div by div paragraph by paragraph. Now remember that basic styles like padding, margins, colors and backgrounds are key to success for most email providers but I was able to get a way with floats all the way to embedded web fonts! This maybe old news but I couldn't get anything to look as consistent without this tool ...There were some problems in Hotmail but who the hell uses that anyways? I had inline styles for my font color to be white but it renders green in hotmail...colorblind much hotmail? not sure going to check that out tomorrow but until then if there are designers/developers out there that want results use the link above. I have recently went away from image based emails due to images not being activated in emails. Having a designed email that loads everything but an image or two without any effort on their end is a breath of fresh air and I'm sure your boss will enjoy the open/return rate.

JavaQuery?

So I read everywhere that Web Designers only need to know HTML and CSS and to understand Javascript. I want to find a job where that is possible. Ha. From my understanding so far its Hey do this make it happen or we'll find someone else. Sure you can find help but when are you finding so much help that you end up ousting yourself from the job? I can see the dream job of Designing and applying CSS but to me regular business owners don't even know what HTML is. I heard a story of some one not getting hired because they needed some one that does graphic design and have the ability to create an online store. Um...really? I mean that's what I'm striving for here but I would hope to be paid 10 figures to be the only one on staff to be your online presence and marketing. SEO, security, and databases to control would be crazy enough let alone creating graphics, personality, and branding to your company. Geez. I like to believe that I stress myself out way too much and that when I do search the market for a job it will be as easy as Writing some HTML, CSS and designing what I can, but I just don't see it. I've been digging into JQUERY lately and it seems likely that I'll eventually be able to at least understand it. Being able to use some advanced logic to write an online program might be on schedule in 10 years but I'll take it one step at a time. I'm treating my blog as a personal journal and not sure if thats what I'm wanting but if you found yourself here for what ever reason take one thing from this whole paragraph especially if you love Web Design like me. Keep with it. Living in the Midwest I feel alone a lot of the time when it comes to this subject but I know there are a ton of people out there that are waking up everyday learning something new and struggling just as much, but it's still bothersome at some point when I have no reference as to when enough is enough to get a job right out of college. Especially since my eyes are to the coastal areas. My degree isn't really even in Web Design/computer Science so I know there are a ton of people with one leg up on me, but I'm going to blind that out for a while as I sit in my room and blast out some logic for the next semester.
